| CCLEC and French Customs cooperation for CWC 2007 |
   French Customs CCLEC - CDI -CCLA CIFAD A three day ELO workshop organized jointly by CCLEC and the French Customs was held in the Caribbean Headquarters of the French Customs in Martinique from February 12 to 15, 2007. Twelve participants from the Eastern Caribbean countries of Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines attended including one participant from Jamaica and observers from Canada and the United States. The facilitators for the workshop were provided by CCLEC, the French and Saint Lucia Customs. The French Embassy for the OECS and the French Inter Agency Counter Drug training Centre (CIFAD) in Martinique were the main sponsors of this event.
The workshop was geared towards preparing the OECS Customs departments in particular for their respective roles in managing the increased flow of persons and goods during the period of CWC 2007. The workshop provided valuable insight into some of the requirements which are still necessary to ensure a secure CWC environment while at the same time allowing participants to share their views and discuss salient issues related to IPR, profiling, targeting and enforcement operations In addition the workshop examined the possible threats and challenges to the region and the responsibilities of customs administrations as part of the response to the national and regional security effort. |
